Submit a Freedom of Information Request

All requests to inspect, copy or certify public records must be submitted to the Village in writing. The Village will respond to each written request to inspect, copy, or certify public records within five (5) Working Days after receipt of the request. Visit our Citizen's Request Tracker webpage to submit your request online or click here to download a fillable (PDF) Freedom of Information Request Form that can be printed and mailed or emailed, or dropped off at Village Hall.

Copies of public records will be provided only upon payment of the required fees. For requests for information NOT intended for commercial use, the Village will provide up to fifty (50) black-and-white copies at no charge. Otherwise fees will be $0.15 for each 8½” x 11” black-and-white page, oversized and color copies at the Village’s cost for reproduction. Copies of public records will be certified upon payment of a certification fee of $1.00 for each document certified. Copies of public records will be mailed if requested.

All notices and other communications relating to a request to inspect, copy or certify public records, all requests for copies of the Freedom of Information Rules, and all requests for any other information relating to the Village’s implementation of the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, should be directed to the Primary FOIA Officer at foia@wheelingil.gov or 847-499-9082.
