Panattoni Development broke ground in June 2019 on a 162,000 square foot spec industrial building at Wolf Road and Dean Avenue immediately west of the Chicago Executive Airport. The developer is targeting distribution, warehousing, logistics, and light manufacturing uses for the property. Wheeling contains nearly 14.0 million square feet of industrial space with a vacancy rate of only 4.2 percent. Wheeling has the fifth largest manufacturing employment concentration in the state behind Chicago, Elk Grove Village, Rockford and Elgin. The Village provided a Cook County Class 6b property tax incentive for the project given the redevelopment of a blighted site and the job creation potential.
