In response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Village of Wheeling is taking proactive steps to help prevent or deter the spread of the virus in the community.  Taking action now to limit exposure helps protect the health and safety of us all. Because the most effective way to prevent the spread of coronavirus is to limit contact with and closeness to other people, the Village is suspending the following functions:

• Public building tours
• Police ride-alongs
• Car seat checks
• Fingerprinting services
• Blood pressure checks
• Sharps and medications collections - resumes July 18th 
• Administrative adjudications - resumes July 13th
• Peer Jury

The Village has also cancelled meetings of the following public bodies:

• Upcoming meetings cancelled:
• Senior Commission
• Board of Health - resumes July 28th

Please note that several Village transactions can be conducted online, without the need to come to the Village Hall, Police Station, or other public buildings.

• Payments for water bills, parking compliance tickets, red light camera tickets, and Metra parking fees can be paid at this link.
• Freedom of Information Act requests, Public Works service requests, Code Violation reports, and Police reports can be submitted at this link.
• Village Board meetings can be viewed live online at this link.
• Applications for employment for current job openings can be submitted at this link.
• Water bill payments can be paid by check and mailed or dropped off in the water bill drop box at the Wheeling Village Hall (2 Community Boulevard) 24 hours a day.

The Village of Wheeling is currently following all Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and State of Illinois orders with respect to COVID-19, and is continuing normal operations, though some buildings are closed to the public during the stay-at-home order.

As of May 1, Governor Pritzker issued an executive order which requires masks or face coverings while you are in public and unable to maintain a six-foot distance from others. Here’s what you need to know:

What are the requirements for wearing a mask or face covering in public?

The State of Illinois requires that people wear a cloth face covering over their nose and mouth when out in public and when social distancing is not possible. This helps protect the people around you, as you could be infected but asymptomatic.

When and where do I need to wear a mask? 

Masks need to be worn when frequenting public places and when you are unable to maintain the social distancing requirement of six feet. Face coverings are required in indoor public places such as grocery stores.

Do I need to wear an N95 mask?

No. A cloth face covering made from household items is recommended for anyone who is not a public safety or healthcare frontline worker.

Are cloth masks reusable?

Cloth masks are reusable and should be washed after every use.

Are medical grade masks reusable?

Yes, but they should be stored in a clean and safe place after use. If the mask appears dirty or damaged, it should be discarded.

Are children required to wear masks in public?

Yes. Children over the age of 2 who are medically able to tolerate a face covering (mask or other face covering) are required to cover their nose and mouth when they are in a public place and unable to maintain a six-foot social distance. To help ease fears of wearing a mask, buy or make coverings with appealing fabrics, or let them draw personalize it with markers to make them look more fun.

Do I still need to stay six-feet away from other people if I’m wearing a cloth face covering?

Yes. Wearing a cloth face covering is an additional public health measure people should take to reduce the spread of COVID-19. The State of Illinois still requires you stay at least six feet away from other people (social distancing) with or without a face covering.
