Sewer Line Cleanout

  • All work must be done by a licensed Sewer or Plumbing Contractor who must provide the Village with a copy of their (055 State of Illinois Department of Public Health Contractor's Registration License, as well as a copy of their (058) State of Illinois or City of Chicago License.
  • Install a 6" PVC tee with a sweep towards the street. View the Cleanout Standard Sheet (PDF).
  • Use Non-Shear couplings to make connections to dissimilar pipe materials.
  • PVC cement and primer are required for PVC/PVC connections.
  • Extend clean out to grade, cap as needed.
  • PVC Schedule 40 is acceptable for clean-out stations only.
  • In replacing a service line, SDR26 is required.
  • All sewer repairs must be bedded and covered in 3/4" or No. 6 compacted wash gravel.
  • Contractors must make use of a 5 1/2" cutter to ensure a clear service line.
  • Upon completion of repairs, but before backfilling, an inspection by the plumbing inspector is required.
  • The use of a TV sewer camera may be used to verify that the service line is clear.
